Timeless Driftwood Shades for Fall
Posted by Caron on Aug 30, 2018
As the weather turns cooler and the fog starts rolling back in, I am always drawn to driftwood-like colors mixed with soft shades of blue in coastal home decor. Our team has been been thinking about all of the ways that you could blend in the natural shades of sand, driftwood and waves to create an autumn look for a seaside home. We think we have some fun ideas to show you. Easy to accomplish a fall "seaside" look without a lot of expense!
Fall is a time when we start living more inside than outside, but I still want to keep that "outside" nature feel. It's easy to accomplish with a little creativity by bringing natural elements from the beach into your home. I tend to change out my large glass lamp with every season - a fun way to show off your summer seashell collection and interesting driftwood pieces.
No "fall" foliage? Try creating a driftwood bouquet! We make these fun pieces from gathered driftwood and found beach-washed aqua rope pieces. Simple glass vases and voila' - a new centerpiece!
Fall at the coast can be a challenge, as many of the decorating magazines show lots of "traditional" fall colors like orange, rust, deep reds and browns - which are not always the coastal shades of nature at our stretch of the beach. We tend to drift to sage green and blues, as well as soft driftwood tones. For instance, where we live in Northern California, we have some "fall color", but very little. Our coast is made up of dark green wild, wind-tossed cypress trees and steep sandy cliffs - we really do not have very many trees that change with the seasons. What we do have is; silvered driftwood, white shells, soft grey sand, and weathered sea grass shades.
Here are a few of my favorite room ideas - Enjoy the Inspiration!
1, Kristy of Starfish Cottage Blog's pretty blue and driftwood-taupe living room
2, Love this bookcase shelf and driftwood pieces featured in Better Homes and Gardens! Cool blues inside the cabinet, with bright white vintage pieces to show off their beauty. Now, I want to go out and start a globe collection.

3. Not sure of the original source of this image, but really really like the seaside boho feel of this space and the natural indigo blue pillow mix! Golden pumpkins add just a hint of fall.
4. From Kim at Sand and Sisal, a lovely mix of driftwood, rope and aqua tones. Lighting the candles in the hurricanes must be stunning atop the aqua sea glass. Such a pretty space and so functional too.
5, A pretty vignette with blue and white coral pieces grouped together in a rustic tray. (From PencilShavingsStudio.com)
6. From the adorable Paint me Pink Blog - great mix of blue and driftwood shades, would simply add a fluffier knit throw to make this room feel more like fall.
Maybe like this one from our store?
7. Love the framed nautical art in the above pic - maybe try a nautical pillow to represent your favorite coastal spot? Would blend perfectly with your new driftwood and blue look!

8. Cozy knits and deep blue pillows add to the non-summer feel of this timeless coastal room
9. A Fab Entryway with a bold blue and driftwood striped rug - love the basket full of beach rocks on the entry shelf.
10. From HGTV's Pacific Northwest Dream Home - modern touches with all different shades of blue. Coastal without being so "beachy". Love how the designer used a large piece of found driftwood to create in interesting focal art piece for the wall.
So what do you think? Would love to know how you decorate your coastal home for fall!
